How this class is laid out.
The course is designed for those with a desire to write, regardless of their level of experience. It consists of ten modules that cover different aspects of writing short stories, such as understanding what a short story is, choosing characters, developing conflict, and building structure. The course encourages a sense of play and urges participants not to jump ahead in the materials to avoid frustration and ensure a better story.
The course takes place over 10 modules:
- Introduction
- What is a short story? And why start with short stories, and not a novel?
- Feeling it out
- Picking the right characters and bringing them to (half) life.
- What is an inciting incident, and how to use one in your story.
- Finding the conflict of a piece.
- The most common short story shape and how to put it to use.
- What is perspective, and how to choose the right one for your story.
- Discovering your ending.
- Write your first draft!
Let's begin!
