How this class is laid out.

The course is designed for those with a desire to write, regardless of their level of experience. It consists of ten modules that cover different aspects of writing short stories, such as understanding what a short story is, choosing characters, developing conflict, and building structure. The course encourages a sense of play and urges participants not to jump ahead in the materials to avoid frustration and ensure a better story.

The course takes place over 10 modules:

  1. Introduction
  2. What is a short story? And why start with short stories, and not a novel?
  3. Feeling it out
  4. Picking the right characters and bringing them to (half) life.
  5. What is an inciting incident, and how to use one in your story.
  6. Finding the conflict of a piece.
  7. The most common short story shape and how to put it to use.
  8. What is perspective, and how to choose the right one for your story.
  9. Discovering your ending.
  10. Write your first draft!
